How To Recharge When You Feel Down

It’s Good Friday tomorrow, which means that many of us will be having a well earned 4-day weekend. But how can you recharge and reset on a normal day? I have a few ways I want to share with you today of how I relax and pep myself up when I’m feeling low.

Take Time to Myself

The first thing I will do if I am feeling particularly stressed or sad is find a place to be alone for a while. It might only be for 10 minutes- or it could be an hour, but just being on my own away from everything helps me to relax and really listen to my body and mind.

Have Something to Look Forward To

Whether it be a meal out with friends, a cinema trip or a day off work- I always like to make sure I have something to look forward to every few weeks. This way I’m not burning myself out for weeks on end without something pulling me through. For example at the moment I have a 4 day weekend to look forward to, and then next week Sam and I are going for a meal with our friends, and then in 2 weeks I have booked a couple of days off work. Little things like this make a HUGE difference to my motivation and mood.

Book a Holiday

As I said above- having a day or two off to look forward to is a great feeling. But why not go that extra mile? Book yourself a night away- or a full week if you like. That way you’ve got something to countdown to for the next few weeks and months which will make you feel happy and motivated.

Learn Something New

I don’t know about you but I get bored really easily. Which is why I always give myself plenty of things to do. Right now I have 3 of my own blogs to look after, plus one I am helping my mum build- as well as a book I am halfway through writing. It sounds like a lot of work but I honestly love it. It gives me something to work for and keeps me so motivated. I even have a few secret projects I am working on as well! Anyway, why not try and learn something new this week? Whether it be how to cook pasta, calligraphy or a new skill for work. Anything that gets your brain fired up is perfect.

Stop and Breathe

Now, you might have a million new things to do and hobbies you are pursuing- but you need to remember to take that valuable time to stop and breathe. Whether it be when you are in the shower at night or when you do some yoga in the mornings- take 20 minutes each day to just stop what you are doing and focus on yourself. Don’t worry about any deadlines, projects or things you need to do around the house- enjoy the silence and reset you head. And then you’ll be ready to conquer the world.

As always, I want to end this post with a positive thought:

Great post! I agree with your methods as I do pretty much the same thing when I am feeling down. I especially like Take time to Breathe because in doing so we re-connect with what is important in life and we take an objective view of the rat race of life. For myself, I would also add listen to something inspirational. I do this through podcasts or Audible downloaded books that inspire me. Have a lovely day!
